The Green Accord — Nature, Leaves & Garden Air
The green accord captures the scent of crushed leaves, freshly cut grass, stems, and the sharp vibrancy of living vegetation. Unlike floral notes that evoke petals, green notes evoke the plant itself — foliage, sap, and the bright snap of a stem breaking. This accord brings a natural, outdoor quality to any composition.
Core Architecture
Green notes tend to be sharp, slightly aldehydic, and linear. They work best in the top and heart of a composition, adding crispness and a sense of naturalness.
Key Materials
- Galbanum oil / resinoid — The quintessential green note. Sharp, resinous, leafy. A little goes a long way.
- Violet leaf absolute — Cool, green, slightly aquatic. The most refined green material.
- cis-3-Hexenol (leaf alcohol) — Freshly cut grass. Used at very low doses (0.1-1%).
- cis-3-Hexenyl acetate — Fruity-green, banana-leaf. Softer than the alcohol.
- Styrallyl acetate — Green-floral, gardenia leaf character.
- Dihydromyrcenol — Fresh, metallic-green. A key modern material.
